Department of Industrial Design

We educate designers who can offer new lifestyles and social systems.

Industrial design determines the quality of lifestyles. It is from this perspective that students study the design of goods and devices that shape our lifestyles and concepts and methods relating to packaging and graphic design of these goods and devices. Students also study industrial system and social system designs that create consumer items. In this Department students learn the fundamentals of the planning and design methods of monozukuri, a Japanese concept of manufacturing that combines a spirit of craftsmanship with the drive to constantly improve production systems and processes. They also learn about the elegant expression of form and color and user-friendly design. With an emphasis on practice, we train creative individuals who can conceptualize and create goods based on their daily observations and social awareness.
