Aim of Shizuoka International Opera CompetitionShizuoka International Opera Competition aims to discover and encourage young talent in the field of vocal music as well as to create a unique Shizuoka Culture to benefit the world through intimate international experiences. Reason of Shizuoka International Opera CompetitionShizuoka International Opera Competition was established in honor of Tamaki MIURA-the world-famous diva of Shizuoka. Beginning in 1996, the 50th anniversary of Ms.Miura's death, the competition has been held every three years. Who is Tamaki MIURA ?Tamaki MIURA was born in 1884 in Tokyo. Her mother and father were from Shizuoka. Her husband, Miura Seitaro, a Doctor of Medicine, was also from Shizuoka. At the age of 19, she made her debut in Japan in the opera "Orfeo ed Euridice." She became very famous. In 1914, she moved to Germany, and then she spent many years in England, the United States of America, and Italy. Everywhere she went, she fascinated people with her magnificent voice. She appeared as Madama Butterfly over 2000 times. Puccini, the composer of "Madama Butterfly", said that Madama Butterfly was composed for her. She continued to perform after returning home. In 1946, she passed away in Tokyo. |
