Interview with Laureates vol.3

Competition

2014.4.14

Here is the interview with South Korean baritone, Chan Hang LIM. He received the 3rd prize in the 6th competition, and now he performs actively at the prestigious theaters in the world.

At the beginnig of this March, Mr. LIM came to Japan to perform the role of Germon in "La traviata" at Toyota City Concert Hall. This interview was filmed just after his performance.
Thank you for your great performance today, and this is your first time to play the role of Germon. How was it?

I was feeling very nervous while preparing, because everybody knows this role and the aria “Di Provenza il mar, il suol”. I was also nervous to perform with the orchestra. But now I feel very happy because it finished, and I think I was singing well. Now I have a confidence in singing this role.

How many roles have you been playing so far?

Wow, more than 30 roles. For example, this year I have just finished the role of "Count Almaviva" of Le nozze di Figaro in New Zealand, "Germon", and then I will perform "Don Giovanni" in London.

You are coming to Hamamatsu this July despite your busy schedule. Do you have any comments to your fans in Hamamatsu, please?

Everytime I say to the public, "Please come and watch the performance". That's the way to help artists, even Japanese artists or foreign artists. Art is something special. It is not very difficult, just come and watch, please. I really want to see you all.

Mr. LIM, thank you for taking time for this interview!
Mr. LIM will join the pre-competition event held this July in Hamamatsu, Japan. We really look forward to seeing you soon in Hamamatsu.
