Studying and traveling abroad had been my dream for a long time. I learnt many things about international culture and English, by taking the classes in SUAC, but it was not easy to get an opportunity to study abroad in Wales at first. A lot of teachers in SUAC helped me to get the necessary IELTS score of 6.0 and to apply for the courses.

Communicating with friends from different countries improved my English skills a lot and it made me feel special that I can live with and talk to people who have different cultural backgrounds from me. I have priceless memories from when I joined many traditional events such as Thanksgiving, Saint David's Day and Chinese New Year. We all have different thoughts and beliefs but we can celebrate our culture and friendship together.
I lived with seven local students from Wales and England. It was important to communicate with them to understand the systems and rules in our flat and it was difficult at first, but they always took care of me and I felt comfortable to live with them.

I wanted to travel abroad and it was very convenient to travel around Europe when I was living in the U.K. I traveled to Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Spain, and Portugal. Outside the U.K., I didn't go to any English speaking countries, so I could check how much my English skills improved in each different environment. All of these countries have very interesting cultures and everything amazed me because I had lived only in Japan for 20 years.
These experiences enabled me to think in various perspectives and made me more confident about just being myself and for my English skills. I strongly recommend to travel if you have the chance to study abroad.
The style of class is totally different in Japan and Wales, so I was confused and couldn't do my best in the class at first. If I didn't ask questions nor say my opinions, I would just sit in the classroom even when I didn't understand what the teachers and students were talking about.

There were a lot of activities in the classes, and I had many opportunities to talk with my classmates. Telling people my opinion was tough for me at the time and I realized that it is also necessary to comment on other people's opinions when taking classes in Wales. In Japan, I was satisfied just to understand the topics and contents of classes.
However, I was required to discuss with classmates and improve my understanding in Wales. That was the biggest difference and also an important positive point of studying abroad. Because of this I felt 10 times more tired after the classes than when I take classes in Japan, but I felt 100 times more confident and satisfied than when I take classes in Japan.

The teachers and other students always gave me a great environment to study and motivation to keep working hard at the challenge of understanding difficult topics.
