Event Information

This production, which was staged with great success at the World Premiere in Tokyo in 2019, then at the Sächsischen Staatsoper Dresden (Semperoper Dresden) in 2022, and at the San Francisco Opera in 2023, will be performed again in Japan in July this year. The production was directed by Amon MIYAMOTO and the costumes were designed by the late Kenzo TAKADA, a world-renowned designer who passed away in 2020.

TAKAHASHI will play the role of a 15-year-old girl with noble and pure feelings in her heart, along with her own dignified and graceful singing voice. JO has performed the role of Pinkerton in two major productions, at the New National Theatre in September 2022 and in “TRAGIC TRILOGY III” at Hakuju Hall in December 2023. While maturing year by year as the role, please look forward to JO performing a new Pinkerton under MIYAMOTO's direction. This performance employs double-casting, and TAKAHASHI and Jo are in different groups of their performance dates.

There will also be a performance in Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture, the hometown of designer Kenzo TAKADA, who was in charge of costume design for this performance. JO will appear in this performance. The drop curtains in the main and middle halls of Arcrea HIMEJI, where the performance will be held, were designed by him. You will be able to enjoy not only the costumes of the opera, but also the beautiful curtains with Himeji Castle designed on them.
