She had performed at major opera houses all over the world including Teatro alla Scala in Milan and Metropolitan Opera House. Especially her performances in the “Otello” and “Aida” with NHK Lirica Italiana in 1959 and 1961, which she performed with Mario Del Monaco, are still legendary today.
For our competition, she worked with us as a jury at the time of the 2nd competition in 1999 for the first time, then 3rd, 6th, 7th, and 8th competition. She was friendly to everyone and always passionate about her work, and for young contestants, she provided very valuable guidelines for future careers as an opera singer.
Mt. Fuji International Opera Competition of Shizuoka greatly appreciates her generous support and contribution to the development of our competition over the past years and expresses our sympathy. May she rest in peace.
