Mt. Fuji International Opera Competition of Shizuoka is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Werner HINK on May 21st in his hometown, Vienna. He had worked for the competition as one of the jury members for years.
Mr. Hink was appointed as the first violinist of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in 1964 and served as this orchestra's concertmaster from 1974 to 2008. He also served as a leader of the Vienna String Quartet and a soloist and taught young musicians at the City Institute of Music in Vienna.
For our competition, he was a member of the jury for the 7th edition held in 2014 and the 8th edition held in 2017. With his friendly personality full of humor, he provided positive guidance to many contestants for their future singing careers.
We express our sincere gratitude for his kindness and achievements in the Mt. Fuji International Opera Competition of Shizuoka and extend our deepest condolences upon his passing.
