Mr. Gowland served as artistic director of the Jette Parker Artists Program—the Royal Opera’s training program for young artists—for 25 years since its establishment, dedicating himself to nurturing numerous musicians. With his exceptional artistic discernment and profound musical insight, he launched the careers of numerous artists who have gone on to thrive in the global opera world, making a significant contribution to the development of opera internationally.

He served as a jury member for this competition at the 8th edition held in 2017 and the 9th edition held in 2023. He engaged sincerely with each contestant and, through his warm guidance, provided many young singers with valuable direction for their future artistic careers.

Furthermore, his constant focus on the potential of young talent and his heartfelt desire to see them grow deeply impressed not only the contestants but also the organizers. His sincere character and passion for the art of opera will surely remain in the memories of many people for years to come.
